What should you not automate in marketing?
Three kinds of marketing work should stay with a human, and the boundary is sharper than “creative work versus mechanical work.”
Decisions that set direction. Positioning, which market to enter, what the company stands for, which customer to say no to. These are not automatable because they are not checkable: there is no output a verifier could grade, since the whole question is what the standard should be. An agent asked to choose positioning will produce something plausible, and plausible is the failure mode, because it is hard to argue with and usually wrong in ways that surface months later.
Claims that create liability. Anything asserting a number, a customer outcome, a comparison to a competitor, or a compliance position. The constraint is not that agents write these badly; it is that the cost of being wrong is borne by the company and the error is discovered publicly. The workable pattern is a claims file a human maintains, with the agent constrained to assert only what is in it. That is what a loop’s verifier checks, and it is why “every claim has a source” is a mechanical check rather than a matter of care.
Anything expensive and hard to reverse. Sending to a list, publishing to a live site, posting as a person, spending money. The test is not whether the agent would probably get it right, but what happens in the case where it does not. A bad draft costs a minute to reject. A bad send cannot be recalled, and neither can a post that read as the founder’s own voice.
Everything else is fair game, and it is most of the work: reading, scoring, mapping, drafting, checking, reporting, rewriting against a spec. The pattern that holds is agents produce, humans approve, with the approval concentrated where reversal is expensive.
This is why loops carry an autonomy tag. Auto means it runs and reports. Auto plus gate means it opens a pull request and waits. Assisted means it drafts and has no send path at all, enforced in the code rather than promised in the copy. The tag is a statement about what the loop is allowed to do, not about how good it is.
VibeMarketers publishes one verified marketing agent system every week, with the installable files.
